The Khanya Youth and Community Development Centre aims to achieve its vision through its three strategic focus areas (portfolios) of Youth Development, Community Upliftment and Community Facilities
Khanya envisages its role in Youth and Community Development to be multi-faceted. On the one hand it is and will be an initiator and actual implementer of specific programmes/ services and projects in its service area, whilst on the other hand it is or will be either an enabler, facilitator and/or partner with or referent to other organisations for implementing programmes/ services and projects.
This is the first comprehensive annual report since the new board was put in place in 2017. A core focus of the last 3 years was in rebuilding the organisation through the recruitment and appointment of capable board members, financial stability thorough planning and execution of programmes.
Experience: Principal of Greenpoint Secondary School, Teacher of Mathematics and Science. Director of Education responsible for Human Resource Development and Infrastructure Planning (ECDOE). Acting Chief Director for Infrastructure and IT and EMIS. Acting Chief Director for Education responsible for Inclusive Education, HIV, Scholar Transport and School Nutrition. Current Education focus: Currently serving on the Eastern Cape Education Development Trust ,Birch Trust, Donald Woods Foundation, Borien Education Foundation and Chairperson of the Khanya Youth and Community Development Centre
I was born in East London and completed my education at A W Barnes and John Bisseker Senior Secondary. I completed my Diploma and Advance Certificate of Education at Rhodes University. My BEd Honors I did with Fort Hare University. My Early Childhood Development course I completed at the Carmel Training Centre in Israel as well as the Early Childhood Development Centre in Cape Town. I trained the Practitioners at Primary schools in the Diploma for Grade R on behalf of the Department of Education with SANTS. I taught at a Primary School as a Foundation Phase educator. I serve on the church council as well as community organisations.
Director and shareholder of ELCB Information Services (PTY) LTD. Director and shareholder of Dentarr Investments. Director and shareholder of Forefront (PTY) LTD. Shareholder of Freshmark Systems. Member of the Executive of the International Diabetes Federation. Co-Chairman of the Insulin Task force. Member of the Task Force of Member Association. Also on the Organising Committee, Local Organising Committee and Finance Committee of the World Diabetes Congress held in Cape Town. President of Diabetes SA. Member of the team that drew up the guidelines for non- insulin diabetes mellitus (type 2 diabetes ) for the national department of health.
Current Positions Held: Trustee of the following trusts: Bell Family Trust, Eyabantwana Trust and Nathan Groom Trust. On the Management Board of the Health Resource Centre. Chairman of DSA East London Branch and executive member of Diabetes South Africa. An Executive of the Khanya Youth and Community Development Centre.
